Good Grief!

I had my appointment with the eye specialist this afternoon, and the eye clinic at the hospital the surgery was going to happen at is now closed, and the specialist (and all her staff) are now unemployed.

That means I will have to start over with another specialist, and that means lots of time, probably, will pass. So I'm going to finish that rug using a 3X magnifier lens where necessary, and then I will take on some project or other that doesn't need really fine, up-close vision. Ah, cataracts, the bane of aging eyes!

I was sent home with some complimentary bottles of eye drops, and my file so far....

  1. Good grief is right! How about coming to the US and paying out of pocket to see a specialist? All tolled, it was $800 for me, but when it's your eyes, it's worth cashing in a few savings bonds. Good luck, my friend!

    1. It will be $2,700 per eye here if it gets done privately. And we are currently banned from the US because of Covid, although Canada has been letting American travelers in for some time, now. We're suddenly back to mandated masks, too, so no volunteer job for me until that is ended. More time for minis!
I used to travel to Bangor to purchase miniature supplies....

  2. Just trying to get an appointment is insane these days. I'm wishing you a lot of luck with finding your new specialist!

  3. Gosh - how can they just close a clinic and forget to tell and reschedule patients???
I sure hope you are able to get a new appointment sooner rather than later - not being able to see properly is just so annoying.

  4. The hospital system is managed by a "corporation", so we all have to be grateful for anything at all. The local (large) emergency department is seeing patients in an empty office down the road, due to the high number of Covid cases being dealt with, nearly all school, no-vaccine or travel-related. I'm sure more restrictions are coming!
